Before & After
What Is Discussed During My BBL® Consultation?
Your BBL® consultation is the first and most important step of your skin rejuvenation journey. During your consultation:
- You will discuss your cosmetic concerns and aesthetic goals.
- We will provide a comprehensive skin assessment to determine if BBL® is the right treatment for you.
- A customized treatment plan will be created, including how many sessions are recommended. Combination treatments with other device modalities may be recommended as well.
- The treatment process will be reviewed, including pre- and post-skin care and skin care product recommendations.
How Does BBL® Work?
The light energy penetrates the skin to stimulate cell regeneration, collagen, elastin production, and other proteins deep in the skin. The intense pulsed light will also destroy fine vessels, pigment, and tissue that cause discoloration, leaving you with smooth and beautiful skin.
To correct skin conditions and eliminate skin damage, multiple BBL® sessions may be necessary. We typically recommend 3 sessions spaced approximately 4 weeks apart.
BBL® is an entirely customizable treatment that transforms the face and body, including the chest, neck, back, and arms. We will determine which of the following BBL modalities is appropriate depending on the treatment focus.
Forever Young BBL® – corrects the most common signs of aging, including sun damage, sun spots, redness, Rosacea, broken blood vessels, cherry angiomas, and wrinkles. Forever Young BBL® is also used to maintain healthy skin.
BBL® HERO™ – advanced technology that allows for faster, safer, light energy delivery into the skin in larger areas of the body.
Forever Clear BBL® – designed to treat active breakouts by targeting acne-causing bacteria in the skin. Treatment with Forever Clear BBL® utilizes a combination of blue, yellow, and infrared light to eliminate bacteria, reduce inflammation, and promote the body’s natural ability to clear breakouts.
Forever Bare BBL® – delivers light energy deeper into the dermis to help target unwanted hair. Completed over the course of approximately 6 sessions, the goal is to reduce hair growth, texture, and density.

What Do I Need to Know About My BBL® Treatment?
What Is My Recovery Like After BBL®?
There is little to no downtime needed after a BBL® treatment. Many patients can return to work and their regular activities immediately.
You can expect some redness and soreness, similar to a sunburn. Cool compresses and over-the-counter medication can be taken to alleviate pain, though this should not last longer than 12 hours.
For conditions where pigmentation is treated, such as freckles and sun damage, the areas may become darker or ashy before clearing. This process may take about a week.
The most important aspect of BBL® recovery is skin protection. You must avoid sun exposure and use SPF daily to prevent thermal injury to the skin. We will provide SPF and skin care recommendations when reviewing your post-care instructions.
Is BBL® Painful?
Some patients report mild discomfort or a heat-related stinging sensation during their BBL® treatment. This should resolve within a few hours after treatment is complete and can be relieved with cool compresses and over-the-counter medications like TYLENOL® or Advil®.
Will My BBL® Treatment Leave Scars?
Because BBL® is a non-surgical treatment that does not require incisions, you will not have to worry about any resulting scarring. During the first few days of your BBL® recovery, your skin may feel dry and tender. We encourage you to keep the skin hydrated and apply moisturizer several times a day with gentle, non-exfoliating cleansers. Keeping your skin protected before and after treatment is essential. Strict sun avoidance for several weeks after treatment is necessary. SPF should be used regularly and reapplied immediately after the treatment. Pigment changes are possible following the procedure.
When Will I See My BBL® Results?
Most BBL® patients can expect noticeable improvements to their skin after one week. This is largely because the intense pulsed light stimulates the production of certain proteins in the skin, which takes several days to weeks to occur. You will notice smoother, clearer, healthier-looking skin that can help you look younger than you have in years.
What Are Frequently Asked Questions About BBL®?
-
How long will my BBL® results last?
Once you have completed the initial series of BBL® sessions, we recommend 1 to 2 treatments a year to maintain your results. Due to unavoidable internal and external factors that contribute to your overall skin condition, recurrence of discoloration and age-related changes may become visible if proper skin health is not maintained.
-
Is BBL safe?
BBL is a safe and effective way to treat various skin conditions. Historically, patients with darker skin types were not considered candidates for IPL treatments. The advanced features of the Sciton BBL HERO technology make it the gold standard for intense pulsed light treatment and photofacial rejuvenation for most skin types.
-
Can I combine my BBL® treatment with other procedures?
Yes! BBL® offers stunning results when performed as a standalone procedure; however, many patients combine their intense pulsed light treatment with other non-surgical procedures during the same appointment to maximize their results.
Some of the most popular combination treatments include:
- Morpheus8™ (RF microneedling)
- Neuromodulators (BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®)
- Dermal fillers (JUVÉDERM® fillers)
- HALO ®
- ProFractional resurfacing
