What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that temporarily reduces wrinkles.
How Does BOTOX® Work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic addresses the signs of aging by temporarily weakening the muscles responsible for creating the lines and wrinkles that form at rest and with expression. Unlike injectable dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®, that add volume to fill wrinkles or facelift surgery, which removes loose skin and tightens muscles, BOTOX® reduces the movement of the facial muscles that create the lines and wrinkles, allowing smoother skin and texture improvements.
What Is BOTOX® Used For?
While BOTOX® injections can be used for a variety of medical purposes it is most commonly used for cosmetic purposes. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected most frequently to treat the frown lines between the eyebrows (known as the “11s”), horizontal lines on the forehead, and crow’s feet around the eyes.
Additionally, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to treat the following concerns:
- Heavy eyelids
- Uneven brows
- Horizontal and diagonal lines on the nose (“bunny lines”)
- Overly defined (“square”) jawline
- Gummy smile
- Downward turned corners of the mouth
- Chin dimpling

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Right for Me?
While BOTOX® is an ideal nonsurgical treatment for moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines, patients with very severe wrinkles and deep furrows in the upper face combined with drooping eyebrows may benefit more from brow lift (forehead lift) surgery.
Does BOTOX® Prevent Wrinkles?
Yes! In fact, BOTOX® Cosmetic is being used more frequently in patients in their late 20s to help preserve their skin’s current state and prevent wrinkles from forming.
Getting BOTOX® before wrinkles are visible and bothersome can help preserve the integrity of your skin for a longer period of time. Wrinkles and lines are a result of repeated muscle movement over time. By keeping the muscle in a relaxed state lines will not form as quickly, leaving you looking younger for longer.
Why Choose BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® was the first treatment of its kind to be FDA approved for an aesthetic use. With its safety proven, it has become the most widely researched cosmetic treatment in the world.
Come on your lunch break! Quick treatments and no downtime make it easy to fit a BOTOX® treatment into your busy schedule and allow you to immediately return to your daily activities.

What if I Don’t Want to Have Repeat BOTOX® Treatments?
Many beauty regimens today can have a negative effect if we discontinue the use of them after starting. Thankfully, that is not the case with BOTOX®. You will benefit from BOTOX® injections regardless of how often you undergo the treatment.
What is the difference between Dysport® and BOTOX®?
BOTOX® and Dysport® are both botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators that, once injected, block muscle contractions.
Generally speaking, patients report that the onset of Dysport® is faster (with results seen in as little as two days) with a longer duration. Dysport® is known for its ability to spread more; therefore, it may not be a desirable choice when treating smaller areas. Dysport® is most effective when treating moderate to deep glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows), while BOTOX® has a broader FDA-approved injection site profile.
During your consultation, we will discuss and determine which product is best for you.
What Is Dysport®?
Similar to BOTOX®, Dysport® is used to treat dynamic wrinkles that form as a result of muscle contraction and facial expression. Constant movement of these muscles over time can create the undesirable appearance of lines and creases associated with aging. Designed to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyes, Dysport® is known for producing fast-acting, natural results.
What Is Dysport® Used For?
Dysport® is most commonly used as a nonsurgical option to decrease the appearance of vertical lines (“11s”) seen between the eyebrows. By reducing these “frown lines,” patients have a softer, more approachable appearance while still maintaining natural muscle movement.
Is Dysport® Right for Me?
Dysport® is a wrinkle-relaxing option for men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 who are looking to temporarily improve the appearance of their moderate to deep facial lines.

What to Expect From BOTOX® or Dysport® Treatment
How Should I Prepare for BOTOX® or Dysport® Treatment?
- Three to five days prior to your appointment, it is recommended to avoid taking medications that have blood-thinning effects such as NSAIDs to reduce the risk of Dysport® and BOTOX® side effects.
- NSAIDs are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve®, Advil®, etc.
- Arrive at your injectables appointment with a clean face free of makeup and lotion.
What Should I Expect During My Appointment?
- We will review your medical history and discuss your areas of focus to determine if injectable BOTOX® or Dysport® is right for you.
- A facial assessment will be completed by examining your muscle movement and anatomy.
- Treatment recommendations and product education will be provided based on your individualized aesthetic goals and wishes.
- Once all your questions have been answered, we will prepare the BOTOX®/Dysport® and proceed with treatment.
What Should I Not Do After BOTOX® or Dysport® Injections?
BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® Aftercare Instructions
While there is no “downtime” after an injectable appointment, it is recommended to avoid any strenuous activity or vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment.
Because BOTOX® and Dysport® are injected with meticulous precision, it is advised that you do not have any other facial treatments scheduled for that day that would include massaging, rubbing, or manipulating the product.
Wait one to two weeks before undergoing any additional facial treatments (such as chemical peels, facials, etc.).
BOTOX® and Dysport® are placed by injection beneath the skin, so there is a potential risk for minor bruising, swelling, and redness to occur at or around the injection site. Serious side effects of BOTOX® and Dysport® are rare. To help reduce the occurrence of bruising, we advise that you avoid taking NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve®, Advil®, etc.) for up to five days following your treatment.
Get Natural-Looking Results With BOTOX®
Does BOTOX® Make You Look Shiny?
The effects of BOTOX® should soften lines and wrinkles in the face. Ideally, the softening of these lines leaves the skin with a smoother surface and more youthful appearance. A smoother surface could mean a little more shine because there are less creases for makeup, lotion, dirt, and oil to seep into.
Will I Look Different After BOTOX®? How Can I Make Sure I Still Look Like Myself?
This is a common concern in the world of injectables. While everyone’s goals are different, many patients seek aesthetic treatment for the following reasons: to reduce the signs of aging, to look more rested, and to subtly enhance their features. If this applies to you, rest assured that your results will be natural.
Can I Make Facial Expressions After BOTOX®?
We understand it is important to age gracefully while still looking natural. With the correct dosage, placement, and an experienced medical professional injecting BOTOX®, it is possible to keep yourself looking refreshed while still maintaining the ability to express yourself. Remember that BOTOX® is meant to relax the muscles, not “freeze” them.
